Golf fans are loving their time at the 89th PGA Championship. There's about 7,000 yards of golf course, the good news is it looks fantastic. News On 6 anchor Omar Villafranca reports the bad news is everybody has to walk it.
Golf fans don't sit and watch the action in one place. Spectators are constantly on the move keeping up with their favorite pros, and the only way for fans to get around is by foot.
"Oh yeah, they're sweating pretty good. I am too," said golf fan Abba Thrasher.
Weaving in and out of foot traffic is close to 1,000 golf carts. Vendors use the carts all day to shuttle thousands of gallons of water and Gatorade to thirsty customers. EMSA also uses the carts as a mini-ambulance, just incase a patient needs treatment.
Believe it or not, pro-golfers cannot use the carts on the course.
"The tradition in golf is that you walk, you don't wear shorts, you wear collared shirts, just things like that," said PGA General Chairman Al Bush. "The rules are strong, but that's traditional."
"I think that's part of the athleticism of the game," said Thrasher. "It's one of those things, you're a professional of the game and that's part of the thing that goes along with it."
Fans will have to keep walking from hole to hole just like the pros, no matter how tempted they are to catch a ride.
"Walla go I started to hitch a ride with a guy, but I thought he probably can't haul someone, so I couldn’t do it,†golf fan Dean Daniel said.
The good news is you don't have to walk to Southern Hills. Police say the best way for golf fans to get there is to take a shuttle. For shuttle locations and an interactive map of the golf course, click here.
