Eighteen golf fans were treated for heat exposure during the first practice round of the PGA Championship. EMSA spokeswoman Tina Wells says five people were taken to area hospitals Monday.
On Tuesday five golf fans were treated for heat exposure related issues during the second day of practice at the Championship. EMSA spokesperson Tina Wells says paramedics saw five people, but none of the patients had injuries that required a trip to the hospital.
On Monday, the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for northeast Oklahoma through Sunday.
EMSA paramedics remind golf patrons to dress appropriately for the weather and stay hydrated by drinking water before, during and after time at Southern Hills Country Club. Symptoms of heat-related illness include muscle cramps, heavy perspiration, headache, nausea or vomiting, faintness and fatigue.
