NEWCASTLE, Okla. (AP) _ A 2-year-old boy is in state custody after being left alone at a convenience store at Newcastle.

Police Chief Gary Norman says two people at the Love's Country Store called police Sunday night after noticing the boy wandering inside and outside the store.

Norman says a Kansas woman called police about 4 Monday morning saying the child is hers and she's on her way back to Oklahoma. Norman says the woman claims she was upset and had gotten all the way home before noticing the child wasn't with her.

Newcastle is about 125 miles south of the Oklahoma-Kansas state line.

Norman says officials will have to determine if the woman is the child's mother before returning him to her.

Surveillance video from inside the store shows the boy coming in with a group of several adults and children.
