MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- A Jay woman has been sentenced to home confinement for embezzling veteran's benefits from her dead mother's bank account. U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling says 38-year-old Nola Black was found guilty in federal court in Muskogee of embezzling government funds. Black was ordered to serve two months of home confinement. She was also ordered to serve five years of probation.
Sperling says Black must pay back more than $6,000 she was convicted of taking from her dead mother's bank account.
Black's mother was receiving death pension benefits. Sperling says she failed to notify the Veterans Administration of her mother's death in 2003.
Black pleaded guilty in April.
