The PGA pits some of the best golfers against each other. Many kids won't get to see the professionals up close, but that's not stopping them from trying to catch the Eye of the Tiger at a special tournament. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports on the tournament for the novice golfers.

It's not the PGA, but to some new, young golfers it's the closest they've ever been to the real deal.

â€œIt's fun. I didn't expect it to be so much fun when I picked up a club,â€ new golfer Sarah Oates said.

Sarah's playing against other young people at the Eye of the Tiger Tournament, but they found out playing like Tiger Woods isn't easy.

â€œI triple bogied on all three of them the first time, and I did pretty good on the second time,â€ said Oates.

But winning isn't everything, for them it's a chance to try something new.

â€œUnfortunately in north Tulsa we don't have many activities for them to do. This is one new activity where we're trying to get more participation,â€ event sponsor Lewis Brown said.

O'Brien Park Golf Training Center is one of the parks aimed at giving area children something constructive to do.

â€œIt was fun, and it's good to meet new people,â€ new golfer Delanie Braxton said.

And learn new skills that could take them further than they've ever dreamed.

â€œGolf is a tremendous game to get involved in because most of the time you see people in football, basketball and other sports. Golf is a game that kids, if they really apply themselves, they can get scholarships to play golf just as they could football and basketball,â€ City Councilman Jack Henderson said.

So they're encouraging more young people to hit the green.

Saturdayâ€™s tournament raised awareness and school supplies for area children.
