It's not a done deal yet but an effort to restrict funds to the Cherokee Nation is gaining traction in Washington DC. The House Committee on Financial Services voted to cut off federal money until the tribe recognizes the Cherokee Freedmen.
The tribe voted in March to remove the Freedmen, but in May, they were readmitted on a provisional basis while the issue is decided in court.
Last month, a California Congresswoman introduced a bill to sever ties with the Cherokees until the Freedmen's citizenship is restored.
