WASHINGTON (AP) -- Miss America Lauren Nelson of Lawton is asking Congress to require Internet safety classes for children to educate them about online predators and other threats. Nelson said during testimony before the Senate Commerce Committee Tuesday that Internet safety coursework could be implemented into junior and senior high computer classes.

Nelson's interest in Internet safety was prompted by an experience she had as a 13-year-old when she and two friends were approached by an older man in a chat room. She says they provided their names, ages, gender and location and a few days later he sent them "inappropriate" photographs of himself.

Earlier this year the 20-year-old Nelson posed as a 14-year-old girl to help investigators with an undercover sex sting.
