IRVING, Texas (AP) _ Oklahoma junior defensive back Reggie Smith is the Big 12 preseason defensive player of the year in voting by reporters who cover the conference. Smith is also on the All-Big 12 preseason team at two positions. He was chosen first team as a defensive back and as a punt returner.
Other Sooners on the team are offensive lineman Duke Robinson and place-kicker Garrett Hartley.
Three Oklahoma State Cowboys are also preseason first team choices. They are receiver Adarius Bowman, kick returner Perrish Cox and punter Matt Fodge.
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy is the preseason offensive player of the year and Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller is the preseason newcomer of the year.
