McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Former McAlester City Manager Randy Green says he still believes the charges he was convicted of were unwarranted but that he can survive spending time behind bars. Green had been serving his sentence at a federal prison in Texarkana, Texas, but he has been returned to the Pittsburg County Jail so that he can face a state charge of embezzlement.
In March 2006, Green was convicted in federal court of a scheme that allowed him to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in payments from the city for unused leave days.
Federal prosecutors accused Green of selling his unused leave days for almost $458,000 more than he was entitled to in less than five years before being fired in January 2005.
