Fifty-one-year-old Michael Z. Dean pleaded guilty in Cleveland County District Court to a reduced charge of first-degree manslaughter. Dean originally was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Mohamed Dean.
The elder Dean was hospitalized on May 2, 2006, after being hit in the head and abdomen with a rubber mallet. He died on May 21, 2006.
Michael Dean entered the guilty plea on Thursday and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with 10 years suspended.
