BRISTOW, Okla. (AP) -- The grandmother of Kelsey Smith-Briggs testified for prosecutors in the felony child abuse trial of the girl's mother and said Kelsey "lost her spirit" in the weeks before she died in 2005.

Raye Dawn Smith is on trial in Creek County District Court in connection with 2-year-old Kelsey's death in October 2005.

Grandmother Kathie Briggs and the child's stepmother, Ashley Gober testified Wednesday about seeing injuries on Kelsey after the girl had been with her mother.

Smith's defense attorneys blame her ex-husband, Michael Porter for Kelsey's death.

Porter was the child's stepfather and is serving 30 years in prison for enabling child abuse in the case. He testified Tuesday that he witnessed Smith abusing the girl.
