UNDATED (AP) -- Things are starting to look up for Texas and the Southern Plains in terms of the weather.

A National Weather Service meteorologist says after weeks of flooding, the weather pattern that has swamped that area of the country with rain has taken a changed for the better.

He says the storms that have caused widespread flooding appear to be scattering, and the threat of new flooding has been reduced significantly. He adds that the low pressure systems that have produced heavy rain for a month across Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas have moved off.

Rivers in Kansas and Oklahoma have been receding from record flood crests, revealing millions of dollars in damage to thousands of homes and businesses.
