Construction projects all over Green Country have taken a hit because of recent heavy rains. But The News On 6’s Carina Sonn reports officials say work on the BOK arena is on schedule.
Arena officials say the rain hasn't delayed the overall end date on the project, scheduled for early September 2008, but it has impacted the work. Project Manager Bill Boatright says right now construction crews are working on the skin and roof of the building, and applying aluminum and metal panels. The rain has kept crews from some work, jobs that use heavy equipment and other potentially dangerous tasks, but if everything goes as planned workers will start on the glass icon wall next month.
"We need enough good weather to continue and be able to make the progress,†said Bart Boatright with Tulsa Vision Builders. “So the work inside that's really sensitive to moisture, like drywall, painting, can be done."
Boatright says crews have had to work on the weekends to make up for the rain delay. But he says more heavy rain would impact the opening date. Boatright says he hopes the arena will be dried up by January, meaning any rain that does fall won't get into the building.
