TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ A former Major League Baseball player gets his first coaching assignment with the Tulsa Drillers and the Colorado Rockies.
Mike Coolbaugh has been named interim hitting coach for the Tulsa Drillers, whom he played seven games for in the 1996 season. Coolbaugh also spent parts of two seasons in the major league with Milwaukee and Saint Louis.
His brother -- former Drillers third baseman Scott Coolbaugh -- is currently serving as hitting coach for the Frisco RoughRiders.
Mike Coolbaugh replaces Orlando Merced on manager Stu Coles staff.
The 35-year-old Coolbaugh is expected to join the Drillers during the teams road trips to San Antonio and Corpus Christi.
