High Lake Levels Put A Damper On Holiday Celebrations

There are a lot of people who are not affected by the recent flooding at all. Many of them are looking for something to do for the holiday, like go to the lake. News On 6 anchor Jennifer Loren reports after visiting area lakes Tuesday, it looks like some people may want to spend this Fourth of July somewhere else.

Pat Hahn works at Redbud Marina on Oologah Lake. She says she's never seen the water this high.

"Itâ€™s kind of like we've given up because there's no more space," Hahn said.

She says the water's too high to do anything recreational at the marina.

"All you can see is the peak and the roof part of our bathroom, which normally sits on a hill," said Hahn.

Most of the ramps leading to the boat docks are now submerged. Several cables and lines are dangling in the water, not to mention all of the debris. Hahn has already had to tell dozens of customers itâ€™s too dangerous to get to their boats.

For the most part all of the area lakes are in the same predicament as Oologah, but not all of them are. Here's a list of what's open and what's closed.

At Keystone, everything is closed except the boat ramp south of the dam and the Washington Irving Campground.

At Skiatook Lake everything is closed except the Twin Points campground.

At Fort Gibson Lake nothing is open. All campsites, boat ramps and swimming beaches are closed.

At Eufala, a few campsites are still open and one boat ramp is open at the dam, but swimming beaches are closed.

At Grand Lake, Cherokee State Park and boat ramp are closed. Twin Bridges State Park is closed, but Bernice State Park and Cherokee Two State Parks are open with limited parking.

And finally Tenkiller is in the best shape. All of their campsites, boat ramps and beaches are open.

Most of those open campsites are already full.

Boaters need to very careful if you do go out on the lakes, because there is a lot of debris.
