NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma softball coach Patty Gasso says she has promoted assistant softball coach Melyssa Lombardi to associate head coach.

Lombardi, a former catcher for the Sooners, has spent the last 10 seasons as OU's top assistant and pitching coach.

During that time, the Sooners won the 2000 national championship in addition to seven NCAA regionals, two Big 12 Conference regular-season titles and two league tournament championships.

Gasso says Lombardi has been a huge part of the Sooners' consistent success in softball and that she wants Lombardi to stay at OU for a long time.
