LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) _ A train derailed in an industrial park Friday and authorities were evacuating nearby homes.
There were no reports of injuries. It was unclear whether any hazardous material had leaked at Bluegrass Industrial Park.
Eleven cars of the Norfolk Southern train went off the track around 2:40 p.m. EDT, said company spokesman Robin Chapman. He did not know what the train was carrying, but said there were no injuries.
Chapman said the mixed freight train was traveling from Buckeye, Ohio, to St. Louis.
Authorities were evacuating homes within a half-mile radius of the site, said Chris Thomas, a dispatcher with the Jeffersontown Police Department.
Jeffersontown Mayor Clay Foreman said five of the cars contained an alcohol-like chemical, but none of those cars was leaking. He said another car had spilled harmless plastic pellets.
The evacuations were precautionary, and a nursing home near the site was not evacuated, Foreman said.
