Some Tulsa area residents got into the spirit of giving when they heard about a little boy who only wanted a Christmas tree. The News On 6’s Emory Bryan reports a little boy named Malachi, who didn't ask for presents, just a Christmas tree, got that on Thursday and much more thanks to some Tulsa Police officers and generous viewers who wanted to help.

People shouldn't cry at Christmas, but that rule only applies to people who have something.

“Oh I don't know, I don't, I'm just happy,” said Malachi’s mother, Robin Williams.

Robin Williams had almost nothing for her son Malachi, but now her Christmas tree is surrounded by presents. It all started with a partnership between KVOO Radio and the Tulsa Police Department, to collect gifts for a needy family.

"What I did was go to the Day Center for the Homeless and have them pick a family that had worked hard, got their own place, and who needed help to have a Christmas," said Tulsa Police Officer Jennifer Mansell.

The resulting publicity led to an outpouring of help for the Williams family and nine other families with no chance of having Christmas presents. The Williams had a short wish list that started with a Christmas tree, which the family had never had.

"They asked for some clothing, the basics, sheets, necessities," said Officer Mansell.

Thanks to generous Oklahomans, the Williams family is ending up with much more. So much, it wouldn't fit under the tree and crowded the tiny one room apartment.

"It goes back to the Christmas tree, this is what really makes it feel like Christmas," said Williams.

Robin Williams started December with almost nothing. She was overwhelmed by getting the tree. Getting the presents was about all she and Malachi could stand.

"I feel good, I do, I really feel good," said Williams.

Malachi didn’t have much to say, he's a little shy around cameras, but he's awfully excited about opening those presents Christmas morning.
