WHITE HOUSE (AP) -- President Bush is again vetoing legislation that would have expanded government-provided health insurance for children.

Wednesday was the deadline for the president to act or let the bill become law. It's the president's seventh veto in seven years, and his second rejection of a bipartisan effort in Congress to dramatically increase funding for the program.

In a statement notifying Congress of his decision, the president said the bill was unacceptable because, like the first one, it allows adults into the program. The president says it would also cover people in families with incomes above the U.S. median and says it raises taxes.

The president wants Congress to extend the program at its current funding level before lawmakers leave Washington for their holiday break.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Bush's veto "a sad action."
