OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- About 8,000 Oklahoma students at more than 90 schools across the state will participate in a live video conference with survivors of the USS Oklahoma who are in Hawaii this week for the dedication of a memorial to the sunken ship.

Students at about 10 schools also will be able to ask questions of survivors during the video conference Thursday afternoon. The event will be hosted by the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority.

The USS Oklahoma was destroyed on December 7, 1941, when it was struck by torpedoes during Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. The ship capsized and 429 sailors and Marines were killed.

A memorial to those who perished will be dedicated Friday at the Hawaiian naval base.
