NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- A Norman man arrested for driving on a suspended license is facing additional charges after police say he crawled into the driver's seat of a patrol car and drove off.
John Lewis was arrested Wednesday after police found him in the back yard of his Norman home. Moore police say the incident began about 9 p.m. Tuesday in Moore after police stopped the 49-year-old on a traffic complaint and learned he was driving with a suspended license.
The officer arrested Lewis, handcuffed him and placed him in the back seat of the police car. Sergeant Todd Strickland says while the officer was questioning a passenger in Lewis' car, Lewis managed to get his hands in front of him then crawl into the front seat of the patrol car and drive away.
The patrol car was recovered a short time later with its lights still flashing.
