OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Attendance is up and so is on-track wagering during the 2007 thoroughbred meet at Remington Park.
Officials said the 69-day meet that ended Saturday drew more than 402,000 people to the track, an increase of 23 percent over 2006. The average daily attendance was 5,828.
Total on-track wagering on races rose by 1.3 percent to more than 5.4 million dollars, or a daily average of $78,370. On-track wagering on incoming simulcast races during live race dates increased 18.2 percent to more than 6.3 million dollars.
General Manager Scott Wells credited changing the schedule to run Thursday through Sunday instead of Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday with the increases. Wells says the big gains in attendance were largely in group sales.
He says officials hope those groups will evolve into regular horse players who want to enjoy the live racing experience.
