A deadly crash, involving an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper, killed a young mother and injures her baby. It happened in Pittsburg County, in the community of Longtown, near Eufaula. The News On 6’s Emory Bryan reports the crash happened just before daylight on Friday.

The driver of the car has been identified as 24-year-old Tiffany Brown of Porum.

Both cars spun off the road and onto the shoulder of Highway 9. The force of the wreck scattered car parts all over the road, in front of a convenience store.

"I live on the second floor and I heard the sound of the accident and it woke me up,” said store owner Tracy Williams.

Williams went outside to discover the trooper involved was his nephew, Justin Williams, and Tiffany Brown was already dead.

"A couple of home health nurses stopped and pulled the baby out of the car. I had walked over at the time and there was a guy coming up beside of the road and he said, he could not get a pulse on the woman,” added Tracy Williams, store owner.

The highway patrol investigation indicates Brown, who died, turned in front of the trooper.

"The trooper was responding to an accident eastbound on Highway 9. A vehicle travelling west bound turned in front of the trooper and hit the vehicle,” said Lt. Billy Golden with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Because it was a fatal accident, involving a trooper, the highway patrol will conduct its most extensive kind of investigation, even laser mapping every piece of wreckage at the scene to better determine exactly what happened.

State troopers converged outside the emergency room at St Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where a helicopter arrived with the injured trooper and the 9-month-old baby girl from the other car. The baby, Makinlee Brown, has a broken leg. The trooper has a broken jaw and leg.

The accident was well before daylight, and the highway patrol isn't sure yet if Trooper Williams was driving with his emergency strobes or siren activated or if his dashboard camera was running when the accident happened.
