ANADARKO, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers and local police were called in to help quell a violent protest started by inmates at the Caddo County jail. No one was hurt in Thursday night's disturbance.
"Four state Department of Corrections inmates were protesting the fact that they were in county jail too long," said Lt. Jerry Howell, a trooper and spokesman for the OHP. "They wanted to get moved to prison. Apparently they threw a ruckus and set fire to some stuff."
Officials evacuated about 15 inmates, but they were returned to the facility a short time later, Howell said.
A dozen OHP troopers assisted Caddo County sheriff's deputies and Anadarko police officers.
