A man was arrested and now four of his children are in state custody. The kids were found alone, in a car, outside the Tabu Topless Cabaret in near freezing weather on Wednesday night. News On 6’s Emory Bryan reports the father and the mother of two of the children do not live together, but she let them go over to spend the night. Early Thursday morning, the police called and told her the children were in a car at a strip club and their father was heading to jail.
Mary Egbase cannot believe her grandchildren spent part of the night in a cold car outside a strip club.
"He could have brought them home, or I could have gone to get them, those other two babies too," said Mary Egbase, the children’s grandmother.
Two of Egbase’s grandchildren, Malaysia and Remi, ages 7 and 6, were found in the car just before 1:00 a.m. on Thursday. Two of the father's other children, Ashanti and Cardrico, 4-years-old and 3-months-old were also in the car. Tulsa Police woke up the children and gave them blankets. Paramedics checked the kids out and determined all of them were cold, but unhurt.
A cab driver had spotted them and called police.
"I think they have to take him to jail, because he doesn't deserve these kids, cute kids," said Issam Harfouch.
Tulsa Police found 32-year-old Cardrico Lajuan Nash inside the club, where other patrons said he'd been there for at least an hour. Police arrested Nash and took him to jail and it's not the first time. He was convicted of not paying child support and carrying a firearm while he was on probation. He served two years in prison and got out in 2005.
The older children’s mother, Barbara, hasn't seen or talked with her kids because they are in state custody pending an investigation. Her neighbors believe that's not fair.
"He was supposed to spend some time with them overnight and in the morning take them to school and then return them," said neighbor Greg Campbell.
"Barbara is a loving woman, she would never put her kids in any harm," said neighbor Jeremy Harris.
Their grandmother just wants to see her grandchildren.
"It's not my daughters fault, it's not the other mother's fault," said Egbase.
The family says they've been told it may be Monday before they get to see the children.
