Crews at the University of Tulsa on Tuesday began installing the latest phase of the school's new emergency communications system. Workers were putting up 250 new loudspeakers around campus. Half of them are inside and half of them are outside. The speakers will alert students, faculty and staff during severe weather or any other type of emergency.

"The safety of students and faculty and staff are the primary concern at the university and we have had emergency broadcast systems in place. This enhances it. Takes it to another level. So that we can be able to reach people very quickly in case of an emergency,” said the university’s David Hamby.

The installation should be finished by mid-December. It will compliment a new emergency text messaging system recently put in place at the University of Tulsa.
