An Owasso couple faces seven felony charges of cruelty to animals. The couple, Penny and Fernon Clark III ran an animal shelter in Owasso. The shelter was shut down in August. The Clarks are charged in Tulsa County District Court with depriving dogs and cats of food, water, shelter and medical care. The charges allege certain animals were suffering from malnourishment, open sores, mange, dehydration and neglect.
"We have reviewed evidence presented by the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office," said Tulsa County DA Tim Harris. "Based on the evidence, we have filed a seven-count information alleging the defendants committed the crime of Cruelty to Animals."
Officials say the charges come after more than 60 dogs and cats were seized by Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputies from the New Hope Animal Rescue. A number of the animals had to be euthanized.
