A three-hour standoff ended peacefully Monday morning after an armed man shot at Tulsa Police officers. Police arrested 22-year-old Kyle Carney at 6:15 am. Police say Carney invaded a home near 14th and Troost at 2 am, threatened his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend and fired several shots.
A short time later, Tulsa Police tried to stop Carney on Riverside Drive. After a short chase, officers say Carney crashed his car into a utility pole near 5800 South Riverside Drive, shot at police and ran into thick brush along the Arkansas River. No one was hurt. One of the Tulsa Police officers involved had only been out of his training for two days.
Police arrested Carney three hours later.
"That suspect was seen what was described as a low crawl on the banks of the river. They began giving verbal commands, and at that time the suspect gave up," said Tulsa Police officer Jason Willingham.
The standoff shut down Riverside Drive from 51st to 61st Streets for part of the Monday morning rush hour.
Riverside Drive was reopened to traffic after PSO removed a downed power line from the crash.
