A man accused of stealing a vehicle is hospitalized after he was shot by a Muskogee Police officer on Wednesday morning, says police. Sergeant Peter Liimatta with the Muskogee Police Department says Muskogee Officer Perry Galvin was responding to a call of a stolen vehicle around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Sergeant Liimatta says Officer Galvin came upon the scene of an auto accident at York and Chandler streets on his way to the call. Liimatta says Officer Galvin noticed one of the vehicles involved in the accident, a silver Chevy Uplander, matched the description of the vehicle that was reported stolen.

According to Muskogee Police, that vehicle sped off and was involved in a second wreck a short time later at Monta and York in Muskogee. Sergeant Liimatta says Officer Galvin approached the driver, who reached for a knife. Officer Galvin pulled out his service revolver and shot the suspect, identified as Thomas Marshall, said Liimatta.

Police say Marshall, in his mid 20’s, got out of the vehicle and ran. Officer Galvin gave chase and apprehended Marshall after a struggle, Liimatta said. Thomas Marshall was taken into custody and was being treated for with non life-threatening injuries at a Muskogee hospital, according police.

Muskogee Police officer Perry Galvin received minor scratches and bruises during the incident. Sergeant Liimatta says Officer Galvin has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
