NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Speculation that Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops is a candidate for the coaching vacancy at Michigan is being dismissed by the coach as --quote -- ``foolish.''
Stoops dismissed the topic after practice in Norman Monday night, saying he has nothing to do with the Michigan job.
Stoops' name was mentioned as a possible candidate because of the Youngstown, Ohio, native's ties to the Midwest.
Michigan athletic director Bill Martin says he has about 20 candidates in mind and planned to start his search immediately. Martin expects to form a search committee and to ask for input from Lloyd Carr, who announced this week he plans to resign from the head coaching job at the end of the season.
Other candidates to replace Carr might include LSU coach Les Miles and Kirk Ferentz of Iowa.
