NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- University of Oklahoma senior Andrea DenHoed has been named a 2008 American Rhodes Scholarship recipient, the university's 27th Rhodes Scholar.

DenHoed is a letters and international studies major from Aurora, Colorado, and plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in English language and literature at the University of Oxford in England.

DenHoed is a National Merit Scholar and expected to graduate with honors Summa cum Laude in May 2008. She participated in the OU Honors College Honors at Oxford program in 2005.

In her international studies curriculum at OU, DenHoed has focused on South Asia. She is a biweekly opinion columnist for The Oklahoma Daily, OU's student newspaper, and rows for the OU Crew team.

The Rhodes Scholarships were initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, and bring outstanding students from many countries around the world to the University of Oxford.
