OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher has resigned.

Attorney Irven Box delivered Fisher's letter of resignation to Governor Henry's office at 10:18 AM Friday.

The letter says Fisher is resigning with "deep regret." The resignation is effective Friday.

Fisher had faced an impeachment trial in the state Senate beginning Monday and faces felony charges.

Fisher had said he would not resign as called for by the governor and other elected officials.

The resignation allows Fisher to avoid the impeachment trial on charges of neglect of office, incompetence and corruption.
