Bass Pro Shops broke ground Wednesday on several "acres" of ground for its new store in Broken Arrow. It's said to be the biggest retail development in the city's history.

News on 6 business reporter Steve Berg says Bass Pro doesn't do anything small. They are already well on their way to building the store. This was just the ceremonial groundbreaking Wednesday.

Popular TV personality Jimmy Houston was on had to emcee the event. He has a house on Lake Tenkiller, by the way and said he was excited to have a Bass Pro Shops in eastern Oklahoma.

And like all the Bass Pro Shops, they say this one will reflect the area that it's in. Bass Pro Shops president Jim Hagale: "It'll have a distinctively eastern Oklahoma attitude to the store. We will begin to collect artifacts, memorabilia, wildlife mounts and museum type pieces that will reflect that heritage and tradition."

The store will be 130,000 square feet and will employ about 250 people. They expect it will be done by fall of next year.
