OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Grove Lower Elementary School teacher Susan Illgen is Oklahoma's 2005 Teacher of the Year.
State Superintendent Sandy Garrett presented the award during a ceremony Tuesday at the State Fair in Oklahoma City.
Illgen is credited with developing a project she calls "HOPE." It stands for Happy learning experiences; Opportunities for children to succeed; Positive role models; and high Expectations for each student.
Illgen receives more than $8,000 in cash and stipends, use of a new car for a year, gasoline and other gifts.
She will represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year competition.
