OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Top Republicans in Oklahoma say the national Republican Party must get involved in the state's US Senate race.

Democrat Brad Carson has taken an apparent slight lead in some polls in the race with Republican Tom Coburn.

Republican Congressman Tom Cole says Carson is getting help from the national Democratic Party and says he's confident the national GOP will do the same for Coburn.

But Cole says Coburn's campaign needs help from Washington and the effort needs to start happening quickly.

The election is about six weeks away and Oklahoma is considered a key state in the battle for control of the US Senate.
