Tulsa County has confirmed the first case of West Nile virus in a human this year.

The Tulsa City-County Health Department says a 73-year-old Tulsa man tested positive for the virus. The unidentified man was hospitalized in mid August but has since been released and is recovering at home.

Last year, 79 people in Oklahoma were diagnosed with West Nile virus, but no deaths.

In 2002, 21 persons in Oklahoma were reported with the virus, and two of them died.

Officials say the health department is continuing to spray for mosquitoes across the city of Tulsa and Tulsa County.
