OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A new national report shows college costs are rising faster than the average family's income in Oklahoma.

The report by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education ranks Oklahoma as one of 36 states that flunks the affordability category.

The report finds that families have to pay 23% of their income to send their children to four-year public colleges in Oklahoma. That compares with 15% ten years ago.

Undergraduate students are also relying more on loans, borrowing an average of $3,060 in 2004. That compares to $2,600 a decade ago.
