SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) -- Sapulpa school officials will have a new way to inform parents of upcoming events and emergency situations.

The school board Thursday approved the Honeywell Instant Alert pilot program for the 2004-2005 school year, and it won't cost the district any money.

The alert system sends messages to parents and guardians of students about emergency events like bomb threats, evacuations and weather alerts.

School staff can also use the system to send parents information and updates on things like school events and testing dates.

The messages are sent from the school to parents' home phones, cell phones, pagers or e-mail.

Officials haven't decided which two elementary schools will participate in the pilot program.
