Every year, the big crowds coming to the Tulsa State Fair cause headaches for the folks who live in the neighborhoods around the fairgrounds. And this year, some neighbors say the unwanted visitors have come early.

News on 6 anchor Terry Hood visited the 21st and Yale area and says people who live around here have come to expect people driving through their neighborhoods and parking on their streets, especially when the fair rolls around. But they say road construction is turning their neighborhood into an even more popular detour.

The fair's still a month away, but motorists are already bypassing the orange barrels, and instead are barreling down residential streets. Neighbors say they even run stop signs to make up for lost time. But the road construction on 21st Street won't be a permanent addition to the neighborhood.

In fact, the city says the work in front of Expo Square should be wrapped up by fair time. Field engineering manager Albert Martinez: "We always try to work with the other governments or businesses and in this case the county state fair starts September 30th, we started on the right turn lane first so we would be out of here and we probably might be done with the whole mile by the 30th, but for sure this section will be done."
