OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Governor Brad Henry is beginning to implement his plan to relocate families from the Tar Creek Superfund site in northeastern Oklahoma.

Henry Tuesday named members of the Lead-Impacted Communities Assistance Trust to administer the program.

Under a new law proposed by Henry, families with children six years old and younger in the towns of Picher and Cardin will receive state aid to relocate to a safer area.

It is estimated that 100 families could qualify for the voluntary relocation program.

The 9-member trust is expected to meet September 8th to set up the application process. Then it will begin taking applications for assistance.

Research shows children under 6 years old are most at risk from lead exposure at old mining sites in the area.
