OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma students are scoring higher than the national average on the SAT college entrance exam and rank eleventh nationally in average score.

Graduating high school seniors in Oklahoma this year scored an average of 569 in verbal and 566 in math for a total average score of 1,135.

The national averages are 508 in verbal, 518 in math and a total average of 1,026.

Though just 7% of Oklahoma students take the SAT, state officials say the scores show higher education standards are improving education.

Most Oklahoma students take the ACT exam. Oklahoma's average ACT score is below the national average scores that were released earlier this month.
