OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A 12-year-old 6th-grader from Vietnam is now a citizen of the United States.
Phong Nguyen and his classmates from Jefferson Elementary School in Pryor traveled to Oklahoma City for the naturalization ceremony Thursday.
Teacher Suzanne Kull arranged for the class to make the 2-and-a-half hour, 150-mile trip so students could learn first-hand about citizenship.
But first she had to persuade Phong, who at first didn't want to attend because he didn't want to miss school.
Since arriving in Pryor for first grade Phong has perfect attendance, so Kull arranged for the trip to a part of class.
