Qualified Tulsa Police officers will soon be able to arm themselves with semi-automatic rifles.

Officers say the increased firepower will be used to address dangerous situations in which criminals are armed with high-powered rifles and body armor.

Officers will be required to provide their own rifles if they want to participate in the program.

They will have to attend a class, qualify on shooting standards, and re-qualify with the weapon twice a year.
