Many Oklahoma veterans have a hard time getting back into the workforce because they can't find a job. But the state of Oklahoma has a plan to help.

Tuesday, Governor Brad Henry signed a proclamation declaring September Hire-A-Vet month. It's part of a nationwide campaign to encourage employers to hire those who have served our country in times of peace as well as war.

Oklahoma will be the first state in the country to have such a program. Workforce Oklahoma is one state agency committed to helping veterans find work. Brenda Orange with Workforce Oklahoma: “if you go into the military after high school 20 years later, you're only 38 so you have a lot of work time still left in you."
