OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The number of fatal traffic accidents are up by 78 compared to figures from last year at this time.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol figures released Sunday show that there have been 464 traffic fatalities, compared to 385 at this time last year.
For the month of August, 13 people have been killed on Oklahoma roads. The same number of accidents were reported on Aug. 8 last year.
16-year-old Zachary Ross Caviness of Edmond was killed in a traffic accident Sunday on the Turner Turnpike.
Troopers say Caviness died at the scene after losing control of his 2001 Ford Mustang and hitting an abandoned pickup truck on the side of the road.
Troopers were still investigating the accident. Rain-slicked roads may have contributed to the accident.
