OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Military Department is looking for new places to build armories and armed forces reserve centers.
The department has several requirements for cities desiring the centers.
To be considered, communities must be willing to donate 20 acres of land to the department. The land must be on major transportation routes, have good drainage, have utilities at or near the site and be ready for construction.
It cannot be too rocky, in a flood plain, burdened with environmental concerns or protected by local zoning regulations.
The department says at least eight cities have shown interest so far.
The new facilities are part of a long-range plan spanning the next two decades. Funding for the facilities has not been allocated by the federal government yet, and construction could be years away.
