MILWAUKEE (AP) _ The Milwaukee Bucks signed unrestricted free agent Mike James on Thursday to add some depth at the point guard position.
James will share duties with second-year player T.J. Ford, who is trying to make a comeback from spinal cord surgery.
The team did not disclose terms of the contract.
The 6-foot-2 James played 81 games with the Boston Celtics and the Detroit Pistons last season. He started in all 55 games he played with Boston. He left the Celtics in February as part of a three-team deal that sent him to Detroit.
He averaged 6.3 points and 3.7 assists in 26 regular-season games with the NBA champion Pistons, and then averaged 2.6 points in 22 playoff games.
The Bucks also signed free agents Zendon Hamilton and center Lonnie Jones.
Hamilton, a forward-center, finished the 2003-04 season with the Philadelphia 76ers after beginning the year with Yakima of the CBA. The New York native averaged 3.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 45 games with Philadelphia.
Jones will begin his NBA career after spending the past two years in the USBL and NBDL ranks.
