A Tahlequah man drowned Tuesday evening on the Illinois River. It happened about half a mile upstream from the Sparrowhawk Landing.
Authorities say 52-year-old Kenneth Stovall was helping his dog, when his boat got turned around in the river current. The boat was floating backwards, when a limb knocked Stovall into the water.
Bystanders rushed to help Stovall, even giving him CPR. Authorities say Stovall wasn't wearing a life jacket, and had been drinking.
