OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Poor security training for staff members has led to more than $33,000 in fines for false alarms at Oklahoma City schools.

The city has waived fines for 668 false alarms after district officials promised to provide more training on the proper operation of building security and fire alarm systems.

The district also plans to hire a second security company to monitor alarm systems to avoid having police respond to alarms.

The school district faced about $33,400 in fines, but a city alarm review board waived the fines July 21st after meeting with district staff.

The board also found that the school district had outstanding work orders to repair broken windows or doors.

Strong winds at times could have activated the alarms at the buildings.

Capitol Hill High School and its sports stadium topped the list with 58. Roosevelt Middle School and Douglass High School each had 55.
