A Tulsa dog that made national news after it was doused with lighter fluid and set on fire has been put to sleep.

The SPCA says Melody was recovering from severe burns she suffered last month. But she recently began showing signs of distemper, a viral disease that destroys a dog's central nervous system.

SPCA vets tried every treatment available, but decided to euthanize Melody.

The dog that was brought in with Melody is reportedly doing well. "Amaya" will soon join other SPCA pets to visit area nursing homes.
